The Turkey Thermometer Pops Up

Yesterday afternoon, I sat in my office, teary-eyed, thinking I might never be able to run again. I know, it's irrational, but that's me sometimes. Ok, most of the time!

I posted a pitiful rant to the Penguin Runners group and I was completely overhelmed by all the encouraging responses to my post. Ron offered his infinite wisdom. Linae, fresh off an 18 miler, offered encouragement, as did Barbara, Kay, Kecia, and Larry. John V. and Sandy, also dealing with illness and injury offered a sympathetic ear.

I went home and had dinner with the guys and decided to try it. What's the worst that could happen, I reasoned. If I run and it hurts, I will stop running. The world won't end. I think my biggest fear was that I wouldn't be able to run and I just didn't want to face that. But, I went any way.

So, here's my ORN. Yes, ORN. I put my running shoes on and the beagle dashed to the door. He's not run in two weeks, either! We did a slow, easy two miles around the neighborhood, as the sun set.

I hardly broke a sweat, but I felt GREAT! No pain at all. When I arrived back home and showered, two of the surgical tapes fell off my abdomen (they are supposed to). Under the tape, healed skin, barely marked by the incision. That was the sign that I was hoping for. I'm ready.
